14 Volumes. New Century Edition. Title pages in red and black. Various pagination and tinted black and white frontispiece illustrations. Fine India paper. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Original contrasting red silk page-markers (slightly frayed at ends). 11 x 16 cm. Uniformly bound in the original green half morocco, with gold titling and a five-pointed sycamore leaf design (a sycamore tree appears in Thackeray's description of Atmeidan in volume 5, "From Cornhill to Cairo") on the spines. The cases of the books are in very good condition with very slight fading to the top half of the spine on four of the volumes. There is a extremely slight rubbing to the top edge of the spine on some of the volumes. The wooden, green cloth covered, display box is only in fair condition with some wear, fading and some slight staining to the cloth. Original printed label on underside of lid, detailing complete contents, in good condition. There is rubbing to the cloth box edges and to the front where the word "Thackeray" is embossed in gilt. William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863) was a stellar British novelist, author and illustrator, probably best known as the author of Vanity Fair (a panoramic portrait of British society that was first published in 1848 and is volume one of his Works). A very attractive green morocco bound fourteen-volume edition of his complete works, complete with original display box with lid label.
