186 printed pages (sporadic, marginal small stains and mild, general age-toning), woodblock frontispiece. First and last leaves pasted down to boards by original binder. 2.1 x 3.2". Original boards covered with contemporary block printing -this type of decorated paper was used for many other common household purposes, such as containers for sugar and medicinal powder- (slightly rubbed, worn at hinges and corners). Jauffret was a French bishop and theologian who supported Napoleon with the divorce of his first wife & through his was promised the Archbishopric of Aix but who died in 1823 as just a bishop. Printed at Remiremont, Imprimerie de Duriez. Welsh only lists an example of a different edition, published 7 years later in 1834 and held in her own collection. Welsh, 44. Not in Bondy, nor in Spielmann. WorldCt also locates a miniature copy dated 1834 Imprimerie de J. Chanson, Cambrai. This edition was reprinted in 1830 with an identical printing apart from a different frontispiece -I have an incomplete copy in my collection. So this copy may be a rare example of the earliest recorded miniature edition of this prayer book. Seller Inventory # 5272
