This book originally was housed in a library in the early 19th century home of the English merchant John Watson, Villa St Ignatius in Malta - the earliest example of Gothic Revival architecture in the country that was converted into a protestant College in 1846, and later housed a Jesuit college when this book was acquisitioned, and which closed down in 1907. 64 x 100mm. Contemporary and richly patinated full vellum. Spine with brown morocco titling label with gilt dog-tooth edges and lettering; hand-tooled in gilt with lattice and tiny flower devices.
